In this guide, I’ll disassemble an Acer Aspire V5-551G and show you how to add thermal grease.
Make sure the laptop is shut down.
Let’s remove the battery first.
Then remove all the screws on the bottom cover. And remove the optical drive.
Open the memory compartment, unplug the audio cable.
Now open the bottom cover, we can access all the components in the laptop.
Unplug the screen cable, power cable and the fan power cable beside the fan first.
Then remove the screw securing the fan.
This can be a little difficult. We’re going to separate the fan and the chip while they’re very tight.
And here’s a trick, do you see the gap between the fan and the cooling fin?
You’re going to use this tool.
Stick it into the gap and pry up gently. There are gaps on both sides.
Pry it up and it can be removed.
Then wipe out the old gel on the chips and the fan.
And check if the air outlet is blocked. Clean it up.
